We are still waiting for Nokia's reply regarding the required security certificate.

Been a while!

Been a while since I have come back here.

Still very interested in the ASPICORE Ping utility for the Series 3 phones. Is there anything we can do to help? Any testing you want done?

I know how to sign my own SIS files for my phone specifically.. so if you need testing, then please send me an unsigned SIS and I can test for you.

Thanks!

Thanks for your interest and help, Ben.

I think you cannot sign the AcPing.SIS for your phone without device manufacturer's help, because the Ping application requires NetworkControl capability.

The current Nokia and Symbian freeware submission process seem not to be optimized for this kind of Symbian Signed freeware applications.

I have enquiried the situation from both Symbian and Nokia several times. They say that the application has been approved (last status 11-Dec-06). We have not received the signed application or any official feedback from the "Publisher Certifier" yet. So we are still waiting.

Looks that this kind of application requiring manufacturer granted capabilities is too tricky for the current freeware publishing process.

A personal opinion: The process should be much simpler and quicker to encourage freeware developers to contribute the Symbian ecosystem. Perhaps they know it and there are some improvements in the road map.

Hi
Iam writing some application, which actually send soem URI to pc side program and pc side program has to pick it up files from phone using that URI. Todo this i developed some ftp server in phone, so pc can actually browse the files throught that URI.

Every thing is working, when my phone is connected in network. when pc is able to ping phone my application is working fine. to keep phone in netowork, i tried with download huge file throught browser, at the time of download i can able to ping phone trrough pc and application is working.

If i open tcp/ip socket also, phone is not in network. while sending data i can able to ping, after sending iam not able to ping my phone.

How do i keep my phone in network continuosly(so that pc can ping phone continuosly)

I want to use your ping application, so that it can ping my pc from phone, so that phone will in network. But unfortunately PINg application is only for s60 2.0. Iam using s60 3.0 phone.

It would be much appreciable if you could send me your ping ported to 3.0 sis file or sources, so that i will test with developer certificate and test my applciation.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Hi Irfan,

Sorry, but you have no use for the SIS file or for the source code of AcPing without device manufacturer's permission to get a DevCert with NetworkControl capability.

Ordinary DevCert with all the capabilities possible to get without a device manufacturer's permission does not suffice. Without the NetworkControl capability in the cert, the installation fails with "Required application access not granted".

Status update

Postby jje on Thu Dec 27, 2007 5:29 pm

I write here the current status of Aspicore Ping for S60 3rd Edition in case somebody is interested.

Phone manufacturer approved developer certificate requested on 2006-05-16

The request approved by Nokia on 2006-09-26

Application submitted into http://www.symbiansigned.com on 2006-10-24

Last status message received from symbiansigned / cellmania on 2007-06-04: Your application will be tested and if passed testing should be delivered by the end of week.

No reply to my e-mail enquiry on 2007-08-02.

Somebody there does not seem to consider this application worth the trouble. At least we have seriously tried to publish it...

Now I think I have some good news.

I was hinted about a useful website, which can be used to sign Symbian OS applications with required capabilities for one IMEI at a time. I am surprised to hear, that the service can provide also the NetworkControl capability.

http://s60.vgooo.com:801
descibed on
http://thesymbiancore.com:80/2008/03/29 ... pp-online/

You can download unsigned ping from
http://www.aspicore.com/download/AcPing ... signed.SIS
of from the ZIP file
http://www.aspicore.com/download/AcPing ... _14_83.zip

Then you should be able to sign the .sis file for your IMEI using the web site http://s60.vgooo.com:801

Hi,

I was looking for a ping app for nokia, because we want to check the network connection of the phone to our servers via the 3G or Wifi Network.
Still no response one that signed application for Ping? Been reading up on this thread and seems that this application has been forgotten by nokia. Any chance it got signed?

Hi Max,

The freeware submission link to Cellmania and instructions have disappeared from http://www.symbiansigned.com. It seems that freeware signing is no longer an option.

I am not aware of an officially signed ping application for S60 3rd.

At the moment I don't know any other inexpensive method to sign the Ping application than using the Chinese web page I referred in my previous post.

Hi,
You said "It seems that freeware signing is no longer an option" How about non freeware? Paid? Commercial ware?
Are you and your company still interested in developing this application for the 3rd Edition?
My company is interseted in getting a copy of it working for the 3rd edition. Do you have a email that i can contact you regarding this?

Regards.

Aspicore ping for s60 9.1 came true

Postby andy2 on Sat Jul 26, 2008 3:32 pm

Dear jje,

first off all thanks a lot for free ( I am willing even to spend a few buck for you 8)) development such portable diagnostic application badly neccessary for me and I pretty much hope that is very usefull for more networking guys over the world.I have been keeping my obsolete N70 with older asping to able make my daily testing of networks without annoying using of a laptop until today when I checked your site again and unsigned aspicore came true  . Thanks again.

BTW I do not understand why signing and validation takes ages.
Never mind 8) When Nokia and Symbian signed have such neverending handling we have to use workaround.I have tried on my E61i. All what you need is to open caged sys folders, write ldd and instalserver to right folders to jump over platform security. Now you have all capabilties even network control also your programm can generate ICMP traffic :D . I am not going into details all symbian hands-on guys will find how to do it via google.
Regarding improvements. Do you indent to develope another features like:
1.To add in tools feature changeable ping lenght.I hope it is not complex task. As you know test of any radio network with default 32Byte ping makes no sense against reality.
2.What about tracert with possibitity to disable name resolving.Very useful for engineers to make troubleshooting
3.To add an iterative ping to test defined IP pool
4.Not use symbian UI framework, but make own more attracitve GUI?At least I need change fonts or its colour.

I appreciate you work. I am able to pay for such advanced ping. I hope it will be very usefull for lots of peoples.

Best regards

Andy

The Andy's solution (hacking the phone to install Ping) is also presented here:
http://www.symbian-freak.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=311346

In short, the trick is to get instalserver.exe into c:/sys/bin and then install the unsigned SIS from the link in the previous post (03 Jul 2008).
